A new security measure for the main entrance of the school has been installed. You will notice a new device located to the left of the main entrance door, this is equipped with a camera and a bell. This door will be unlocked from 8:00 – 8:45. At 8:45 the door will close and lock. If you arrive after 8:45 you must escort your child to the entrance and “ring” the bell to gain entrance into the school. The camera will provide us the visibility and opportunity to view the individual(s) prior to releasing the electronic lock. The electronic lock will open again at the end of the day at 3:00 p.m. or 12:30 p.m. on our scheduled early days for dismissal. This new procedure will begin on Wednesday, February 27. Thank you in advance for your patience with this new procedure, a procedure designed to provide additional safety measures for our students and school.

The students have been very observant and commented that our main entrance no longer has a door knob, but instead a pull handle and a bar on the inside. This confirms that the work continued
on Friday, even in the rain, but unfortunately more time is necessary to complete the project. Doherty Construction has made tremendous progress and now the wall between the main building
and the McKeon Center is visible and on the rise. I also met with one of our parents who happens to be an Oceanside Police Officer, and part of the safety team for Oceanside School District to review and discuss safety at OMMS; his suggestions will be incorporated and reviewed with faculty and staff prior to practice with our students.
If your child is going home with another student after school, the school requires that we have your permission, in writing. We are not able to send a child home with another parent unless we have your written permission.
An impromptu FIRE DRILL was held last Thursday utilizing our newly installed FIRE ALARM SYSTEM. We did inform the teachers and the students were advised during our ASSEMBLY last week. I am
happy to report that all went well; students followed their procedures including our Primary students who heard the ALARM, no one had any desire to remain in the building including everyone
within the parish confirming the alarm did its job!

Please remember that attendance is a priority, but not when your child is ill. Parents we ask that you check your child before you send them to school. Please look for obvious signs of illness such as: fever, coughing, “runny nose”, vomiting, diarrhea, or if your child complains of a sore throat, stomach ache or you notice that your child is lethargic; these symptoms could be an indication of the onset of a virus or an illness. PLEASE assist us in eliminating the “sharing” of unwanted viruses and illnesses by being observant and listening to your child. Remember to keep your child home when s/he is ill! Also please continue to remind your child to wash their hands often, this valuable habit benefits everyone.
“Hand washing is one of the single most important means of preventing the spread of infection,” according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
We are also reminding students to COVER their COUGH and SNEEZES with tissues or coughing/ sneezing into the crook of their elbow/sleeve. Please assist us by reminding your own child/ren to continue this practice at home. Please remember to set a good example by doing this yourself to help children develop the habit.
Thank you for helping us to keep our school healthy!
Please remember that the “horse shoe drive” is a
FIRE LANE parents must remain in their vehicle and
move forward as space allows. Remember everyone
is asked to move forward, forming a single line to
permit as many vehicles in the “horse shoe drive” as
feasible and to not create traffic issues on Mission
Avenue. If there is additional space between your
vehicle and the one in front of your vehicle
teachers will ask you to please move forward to
allow others to enter the “horse shoe”. We ask that
you follow these instructions even if your child is
standing in a line that is not adjacent to your
vehicle; the teachers will walk your child to your
car. The area for pick-up is between the main
sidewalk (entrance to school office) and the
sidewalk west of the brown storage shed.
Remember if you have a child being dismissed at
3:00 and one at 3:15 then for your convenience
please pick up both between 3:15 and 3:30; only
once through the “horse shoe”. Thank you in
advance for your attention and compliance with this
request.

Please do not feel that you are not welcome it is the policy of the school and parish and it applies to all whether they enter through the school entrance or the parish entrance; remember it is an additional safety measure for your child. If you have any questions regarding this policy please contact the school office and we would be happy to answer your questions.
