FORTY HOLY MARTYRS
During the season of Lent, Eastern Christians celebrate the feast of the Forty Holy Martyrs. These saints were Christian soldiers of various races from the city of Sebaste in Armenia. They refused to obey the demand of the emperor Licinius that they abandon their religion, so they were sentenced to death by freezing. Forced to lie on a frozen pond, they encouraged each other during their ordeal.
One soldier lost heart and ran for a warm bath that the emperor had prepared to tempt them. A pagan soldier, inspired by the courage of the other 39, joined the martyrs. So their number remained complete.
This feast tells us something about Lent itself. During the 40 days of this season, we try to die to whatever is not life-giving in us. On this March day it is a custom to search for the returning birds and to listen for their songs. The deadly power of cold winter will not last forever. The Easter victory of Christ is coming soon.
Forty Holy Martyrs, pray for us.

What does that mean?
Do you feel as if you have been invited, but really do not understand why?
Hopefully you did remember to save the date as this is a perfect opportunity to join your child at school to "shadow" them at work.
Your children are looking forward to captivating you with their "work" on Friday, March 21, and hopefully spending the remainder of the afternoon with you away from "work" enjoying the first weekend of SPRING a little early….remember you deserve to have that relief every now and then! Our hope is that at least one person in each family will be able
to join their child (ren) for this special occasion. We know your child anticipates being your teacher for the morning and the teachers look forward to your presence on Friday. Remember this is a wonderful opportunity for your child, a time to actually show YOU their "work" and have your undivided attention! After everyone’s time within the classroom we will gather to celebrate mass in the Serra Center at 11:00, followed by an opportunity for you and your child to visit other classrooms within OMMS. Many have found this to be truly beneficial especially for those who are not aware of the next level and what the program offers; therefore why not take advantage of this opportunity, consider this time as your own private OPEN HOUSE! We look forward to seeing everyone on Friday, March 21.
