The next six week session will be fun science themed crafts with optical illusions and pendulum painting. It also includes a study of two famous modern paintings in history. We will explore 3 dimensional crafts in a variety of other media as well. These projects will challenge and engage your child while building creativity, teaching various techniques and styles, strengthen fine motor skills, as well as providing an introduction to art appreciation. This class is open to grades 1st- 8th. Space is limited and class will be filled on a first come, first served basis.
That’s right! The second course in our “Video Storytelling” series is being offered at OMMS this winter (we just completed “Video Storytelling: The Basics” this fall and will be follow with “Telling Your Family Story” this spring).
In “Video Story Telling: Telling Your School Story”, your child will celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Education at the OMMS site! We will work together to create the “Story” of OMMS over the past 100 years through research and interviews. They will learn research techniques to find digital assets of the past; use cameras to take stills and videos of the current school year; learn and use interview techniques to discover what students, faculty, parish members and leaders think about OMMS and the 100 year anniversary of education on this site. Finally, we will put all their new knowledge to work by creating a video production from start to finish! This production will be a “Newscast” in a virtual newsroom where they will present their findings through news reports and re-enactments! We will share this video with the entire school - and, of course, each participant in the course will receive their own DVD copy of the video production! Space is limited and we need all enrollments no later than January 11 – so don’t delay!

Jazz dance class will resume on Tuesday, September 11, and Thursday, September 13th. Classes will be held in the McKeon Center from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. Class starts at 3:15pm. I recommend two classes per week, for the best results. Due to the confined space in teh McKeon Center, eighteen students is the maximum number that I can accommodate. Hence, first come, first served.
I am a fully trained and qualified dancer/teacher. I received my training through the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dance, London England. I have trained in the Cecchetti Method of classical ballet. I have also trained in jazz-ballet, modern, contemporary, character, and tap dancing. My favorite form of dance is jazz-ballet. It is great ofr physical fitness, coordination, body-control and graceful movement. Moreover, it is a lot of fun!
Jazz Dance is offered as an optional extra-curricular activity. The fee is $8.00 per class. Payment is made in advance to me, Miss Susan McGuirk either by check or cash, during the first week of every month. There are no refunds for missed classes, unless you know in advance. We will work on dances throughout the year, so attendance is essential. Please ensure that your child attends regularly for true progress.
Girls are required to wear a leotard and tights, or an all-in-one bodysuit. Boys are required to wear either loose-fitting shorts or sweat pants, and a T-shirt. Laced, rubber-soled shoes or jazz dance shoes are a must, as the floor in the McKeon Center is occasionally slippery. Your child will need to eat a small snack before jazz dance class begins.
There will be a Jazz Dance Performance in the McKeon Center on Thursday, May 30, 2013. Parents, grandparents, relatives, friends and the OMMS classes will be invited. There will be more about the performance later in the year. I look forward to a great year with your children.
Sincerely, Miss Susan

That’s right! The first course in our “Video Storytelling” series is being offered at OMMS this fall (it will be followed by “Telling Your School Story” this winter and “Telling Your Family Story” in the spring).
In “Video Story Telling: The Basics”, your child will be introduced to storytelling through history – from cave painting to video games! We will explore the different ways humans tell stories: pre-language to multi-media. We will discuss the importance of storytelling to mankind and how a good storyteller creates emotions in their audience. Your child will explore video as a medium for storytelling and we will discuss the concept of good spiritual nutrition.
Next up: “Lights, Camera, Action!” as your child learns about lighting, cameras, sound, and editing. We will explore telling a story with a script; define shots within the script and emphasize the importance of planning in creating a video. Your child will learn all about special effects – both with sound (“Foley”) as well as visuals (“Green Screen”).
Finally, we will put all their new knowledge to work by creating a video production from start to finish! We will share this video with the entire school - and, of course, each participant in the course will receive their own DVD copy of the video production!
