Junior Elementary Program (Ages 6-9)
Following the solid foundation laid in Transition, this is the stage at which your children are ready to learn abstract principles. We encourage children to work at their own pace in a non-competitive atmosphere, to gain an understanding of themselves and develop a sensitivity to others. Children may work alone or in groups, all in an atmosphere of courtesy and respect. Montessori teachers are able to focus a great deal of individual attention on children. While in groups, older children share their knowledge and get children excited about learning.
Religious Education: Old Mission Montessori School partners with Mission San Luis Rey Parish for sacramental preparation. Religious Education for children grades 1st-3rd takes place in the classroom with lessons that are aligned to diocesan curriculum. Through classroom prayer and faith formation education, students in the first through third grades come to know, love and serve Jesus through the teachings of the Church. Students attend Mass as a part of the OMMS community once a month and practice good stewardship as they collect food for the poor at Thanksgiving and Christmas, or carol for Seniors and shut ins.
